Where Are They Hidden?

Uncle Mak was very fond of childen and they loved him too. He often told them stories and tsught them new games.
  One day he said,"Boys, I'm going to test you. I have hidden three things in my house and in my rice field . They are a letter, an old coin and a penknife . There are three prizes here for the boys who find them."
  The boys were excited. They wanted to start at once.
  "Now don't dig up my plants,"Uncle Mak went on."I didn't bury the things. And you mustn't make my house untidy. Search carefully. Remember, you must put everything back in its place. You may start nom."
  The coys searched the whole house. They lifted up the mats, looked under the beds and cupboards. They searched every drawer and even looked behind the pictures on the walls. They could not find the hidden things. Uncle Mak watched them and smiled.
  Next the boys went into the rice field.
  "Be careful, boys!"Uncle Mak called out. "Don't step on my rice plants!"
  "Therer are only rice plants here,"Henry said.
  "What about that scarecrow?"Alan asked.The boys went up to it.It had a shirt and a hat on its head. The boys took off the and looked in the pockets. They were empty . The boys put the shirt back and walked away.
  Lo Yin stopped suddenly and went back to the scarecrow. He took off its hat and an old coin fell out . "I've found the coin!" he cried out happily.
  "Good!"Uncle Mak said.
  "We can't find the letter and the knife , Uncle Mak,"Henry said."We have looked all over the house."
  "You can find them ," Uncle Mak told the boys."Think a little and look more carefully."
  So the boys sat down and thought. Where could the letter and knife be?
  Samy looked up at the roof. Suddenly he jumped up."The knife's there!"he cried and pointed at the roof across the roof.
  "Well !"Uncle Mak said,"It was easy to find,wasn't it? It's therer for all of you to see."He sat back and smiled.
  Now the boys looked at everything more carefully. Still they could not find the letter.
  "Don't give up ,"Uncle Mak told them.
  There was a row of paper animals on a shelf. Uncle Mak folded pieces of paper to make them . Tony was starting at them . He went up and looked st every one. He took one out and said, "Here 's the letter,Uncle Mak."
  "Good!Very good !" Uncle Mak beamed." It's also there for all of you to see ," he told them .
  Tony got the first prize, Sam and Lo Yin got the third. Why did Uncle Mak give the prizes in the way?
